Purposeful Gratitude-The Key to a Positive Day
A couple months ago, I decided to take the advice of many and start a gratitude journal. I admit, when I first heard about purposeful gratitude , I thought “That’s great! I don’t really need to though…I’m a pretty positive person” but then life happens and of course never as planned and it gets easy to get stuck in a rut of negativity!
Now I see the truth, EVERYONE can benefit from gratitude. Sometimes life gets overwhelming and we tend to focus on all the negatives, the difficulties and the things that we don’t have. Sometimes we do it without even realizing. I am the first to admit that most times I take my life for granted. I am beyond blessed and usually it hits me in the face when I hear of stories and tragic events. Being purposeful in your gratitude is simply just changing your mindset and making it habitual to be positive. Instead of wishing and thinking about the things you don’t have, don’t get to experience etc. you focus on ALL that you do have. And really…we have a lot. If you are reading this on your phone or on a computer, you have much, much more than most people. I saw this earlier this year and it is still one of my favourite quotes.
Here are 10 things that I am grateful for this week:
1 – I am grateful for my husband who is not only one handsome devil but also caring, loving, silly and my best friend! He just recently started working a Monday-Friday job again and I am so thankful to see his real, non-skype face every day.
2 – I am so so so thankful for my amazing little boy and my fur boy who both make me smile every single day.
3 – I am blessed to have family upon family. Who could ever be lonely when you have so many people that have your back through the thick and thin. I married into more family and I just couldn’t imagine my life without them! You all know who you are and I love you!
4 – All of my friends. To my friends that I have known forever, to my new friends, to my friends that I talk to once a month and to my friends that I talk to every day. I love you all. I once heard a quote that said “If you end a convo with a friend and say I love you, you are a lucky woman” and I most definitely am!
5 – The ability to stay home and raise Easton and my future kiddos! I have always wanted to be a stay at home mommy and my dream came true!
6 – I am thankful for my creative mind because without it, I feel like I might get bored…very, very bored! HAHA!
7 – I am thankful for A/C. Anyone in the YYC area knows what I talking about. I am most certain I would have died during that heat wave.
8 – I am grateful for a hard-working husband that keeps a roof over our head and food on our plates.
9 – I am thankful that I had the means to apply for a student loan and for all the support that I received in University. I always thought that I was just a hard worker but now I see that I was also very privileged!
10 – I am thankful for coffee because without it, I am not sure I would have survived 2 years of sleep deprivation!
However you express your gratitude, whether it be in a journal, speaking it out loud or just thinking and focusing on it, good job! If you don’t yet, give it a real shot and see how it improves your day. Have a wonderful week lovelies!
